Would one tripod work on all the different brands of cameras and camcorders?
I have a Vivitar tripod and the number next to “Vivitar” is VPT-120. The camcorder I have is a Sony and the model number is DCR-TRV830. Would I need a specific tripod for that, the tripod I currently have doesn’t appear to be working. What tripod should I purchase? Approximate cost? Sources?
Tripods used for video cameras should be very sturdy and have the radial leg braces. The camera you have is a too heavy for that tripod. Tripod brands like Manfrotto will show how many pounds their tripods will support properly in the specs of their products. I added a link to their website that shows how to configure what you need for your camera. You’ll see choices of what the tripod is made of and what kind of leg release levers are used, etc. A well made tripod is not cheap. But you’ll see the difference in performance in the long run.
A pro fluid video head is a must. The word ‘Pro’ means something like the Manfrotto 701HDV. I have a so-called pro head that isn’t very smooth and we had to get another model.
I think you’ll be able to choose something at the link below. If not, you’ll at least get an idea of cost and features.
